Role Description: The Costing Engineer is a full-time position with 2 – 3 years of experience based in Chennai, responsible for developing and managing cost estimates for industrial 3D printing projects and related construction or manufacturing activities. In this position, the team member will analyze designs, materials, processes, and labour requirements to prepare detailed cost breakdowns and budgets, ensuring alignment with project specifications and financial targets. The role includes collaborating closely with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to validate assumptions, optimise resource utilisation, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance. The Costing Engineer will regularly review actual project costs against estimates, generate variance reports, and update costing models and databases to reflect new learnings and market trends. Daily activities also involve preparing costing documentation for proposals, supporting pricing strategies, and contributing to continuous improvement in costing methodologies and tools.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis for engineering, construction, or manufacturing projects.
- Proficiency in using spreadsheets and costing software tools, with the ability to build and maintain structured costing models.
- Solid understanding of engineering drawings, bill of materials, and production processes, preferably related to construction or industrial manufacturing.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess alternatives, optimise costs, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and present cost insights clearly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience in project costing, quantity surveying, or cost control in construction or manufacturing environments is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies, new-age automation, or digital fabrication will be considered an advantage.
- Ability to work on-site in Chennai, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced start-up setting.
- Experience with BOQ preparation and quantity take-offs.
